Actress Thandy Matlaila donates 42 pairs of running shoes to Run Alex youth sector

She actively participated in the 2024 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, showcasing her commitment to the cause by pledging to donate a pair of shoes and a sports bra for every km she completed.

Actress, motivational speaker, and athlete Thandy Matlaila recently partnered with Adidas and Sanlam to host a handover event, presenting sports bras and 42 pairs of running shoes to the Run Alex youth sector.

This initiative supports young athletes in their sports journey and personal development. Matlaila demonstrated her commitment by participating in the 2024 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, pledging with the partners to donate a pair of shoes and a sports bra for every kilometre he completes, fulfilling her promise by finishing the 42km race.

During the handover on March 22 at KwaBhekilanga Sportsgrounds, Mashudu Muthakhi from Sanlam expressed the company’s pride in contributing to this meaningful cause, noting, “We are happy at Sanlam to donate these items, and we hope you all will live with confidence and determination.”

She emphasised their support for Matlaila’s marathon pledge and their pride in donating to the youth. Matlaila also took time to inspire the young athletes and coaches present, remarking, “When I see individuals like you doing extraordinary work yet not receiving the recognition you deserve, it truly humbles me.”

She stressed the importance of hard work, saying, “If you train hard, life will always reward you. That is one unwavering truth I can share with you.” She encouraged the youth about personal identity and resilience, assuring them that their origins did not dictate their future. “Who you are is ultimately shaped by the choices you make and the efforts you put forth.”
