Scam warning: Ambassador course WhatsApp scam alert
Fraudsters are offering 'free' Ambassador courses to get your WhatsApp security verification codes. Protect your account by following simple safety tips.
Please be aware of a scam currently circulating where fraudsters attempt to get victims to share their WhatsApp security verification code. Once the code is shared, scammers can take control of the victim’s WhatsApp account, lock them out, and impersonate them to reach out to contacts or request money.

Victims typically receive messages from scammers pretending to be a trusted contact. The scammer claims to be offering an Ambassador course and asks the victim to vote for them by sharing a code they receive on their phone. Never share your verification code with anyone. If you do, the scammer can access your WhatsApp account, lock you out, and send messages or requests for money in your name. In some cases, victims have been asked for money directly.
Protection Tips:
- Never share your WhatsApp verification code or account details with anyone.
- Always verify suspicious contacts or messages through trusted sources, such as Truecaller or Google.
- Enable two-step verification on WhatsApp for added security.
- Review and adjust your privacy settings within WhatsApp.
- Report any suspicious activity to WhatsApp and local authorities immediately.

What to do if your account is hacked:
- Log out of WhatsApp and then log back in to trigger a new verification code (this may involve deleting and reinstalling the app).
- Use the verification code, sent via SMS, to regain control of your account.
- Set up two-step verification to prevent unauthorised access.
- Report the scam number to WhatsApp and block the contact.
Important: If someone contacts you on WhatsApp asking for money or personal information, always confirm the request by calling the person directly via a regular voice call, not through WhatsApp.
Stay vigilant and protect your digital safety.
