In a shocking turn of events, community members in Alexandra reportedly spotted Nkosana Sibeko, accused of assisting Justice Maponyane, who is currently in custody for the murder of 17-year-old Sthenjwa Ntombela, on Roosevelt Street. Ntombela, a beloved local teen, was fatally shot in what has ignited widespread outrage.

The community’s anger erupted instantly. A mob descended on Sibeko, attacking him violently. They doused him with petrol, and in a tragic and chaotic scene, set him on fire. As flames engulfed him, Sibeko, in a desperate act for survival, leapt into the nearby Jukskei River, which is known for its fast-moving waters.
Rescue services later retrieved Sibeko from the riverbank where he was severely burnt, and he was immediately rushed to intensive care. The incident underscores the intense emotions and volatile atmosphere in the area following Ntombela’s death.
Maponyane remains in custody as investigations continue, but the community’s response highlights the deep-seated anguish and demand for justice in Alexandra. Authorities are working to manage the situation and ensure safety as legal proceedings continue, but the events serve as a painful reminder of the community’s pain and frustration.
