JBM coach hails Gomora’s historic promotion
JBM FC coach Jackie ‘Styles’ Ledwaba lauded Gomora United FC’s promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The recent triumph of Gomora United FC in the ABC Motsepe League playoffs, earning them promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, has sent waves of inspiration through Alexandra’s football community. JBM FC coach Jackie ‘Styles’ Ledwaba, whose team competed fiercely against Gomora United in the Gauteng provincial league, sees their success as a transformative moment for the township.
“Gomora United has restored the pride of Alexandra,” Ledwaba said. “We are really proud of them. They are flying the Gomora flag high. They have made us proud. I am sure Irvin Khoza is proud. We say let them continue to represent us well.”

Talking to Alex News about the message he would like to share with the ABC Motsepe League winners, Ledwaba’s words reflect the deep sense of pride that Gomora United’s achievement has ignited in Alexandra, a community with a storied football history – but with no team in the Motsepe Foundation Championship… Until now.
His message reflected his remarkable sportsmanship, especially since Gomora secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over JBM on March 22.
Gomora’s consistent performance saw it clinch the second position in the provincial league with 22 wins, eight draws, and only four losses, later rising to first place after Highlands Park lost over 60 points.
JBM, on the other hand, had a challenging season – securing only eight wins, six draws, and suffering 20 losses in 34 matches. Ledwaba’s team remained resolute, fighting from the lower position to avert the danger of relegation, and now, drawing inspiration from Gomora, the Gauteng low performers have the motivation they need to up their game.
Ledwaba said Gomora has set an example that many teams can look up to. He believes the achievement will inspire others Alex-based football clubs. “It should continue doing well. The games might get tough, but I know they have what it takes.”
