Altron extends free Wi-Fi for Alexandra job seekers
Free Wi-Fi at Motswedi Skills Centre will continue for another two years, after the partnership between Altron and the SA Job Seekers Movement was renewed.
In a community where essentials like food, proper shelter, and basic services are scarce, reliable internet access often falls low on the list of priorities. As a result, job seekers struggle to consistently search and apply for opportunities online, limiting their chances of breaking out of poverty and unemployment.
However, in a move to boost young people’s job seeking efforts, technology company Altron, a long-standing partner of SA Job Seekers Movement, extended its free Wi-Fi service at SA Job Seekers Movement’s hub for an additional two years. The hub is situated at Motswedi Skills Centre in Wynberg.

The announcement was made by Altron senior HR professional Tebogo Mohlampe during the SA Job Seekers Movement job readiness workshop on September 16. Mthokozisi Khambule, spokesperson for SA Job Seekers, described the extension as a progressive step for the community. Originally installed to run for two years, Khambule said the Wi-Fi service had reached its expiration date. However, owing to Altron’s renewed commitment, residents will continue to benefit from free internet access until 2027.

Although the Wi-Fi is hosted at the SA Job Seekers hub, Khambule said its reach goes far beyond the organisation. He explained that it is open to the entire Alexandra community, and it is meant to offer a vital link to online job platforms, application portals, and professional networks, like LinkedIn.
“It is very exciting for the community, and the youth of Alexandra. This Wi-Fi is not only meant to be used by SA Job Seekers or GALXCOC, but the community of Alexandra. They can come here and access free connectivity for job applications.” For job seekers who rely on mobile data or travel long distances to access public internet, the hub offers a safe, accessible space to search for opportunities, submit applications, and build digital skills.
The initiative aligns with SA Job Seekers Movement’s broader efforts to address joblessness in Alexandra. By providing free connectivity, Altron and SA Job Seekers are helping to level the playing field for Alexandra’s youth, many of whom face barriers to employment. Beyond job searches, the hub also serves as a space for workshops and mentorship sessions, further empowering residents to take control of their futures.
