The City of Johannesburg’s acting mayor, councillor Mlungisi Mabaso, is leading a High-Impact Service Delivery Operation in Wynberg.
The initiative forms part of the city’s broader High-Impact Service Delivery Programme, aimed at addressing service delivery backlogs and improving the quality of life for residents.

The operation began on 2nd Street, near the recycling site that was recently cleared, with the removal of an illegally constructed structure adjacent to one of the buildings in the area. The structure was occupied by two men at the time.
According to the city’s regional director, Makhafola Thaba, the operation will also move to Pan Africa Shopping Centre to address persistent issues related to by-law enforcement and criminal activity.
Furthermore, he said the team will head to London Road to assess the Johannesburg Roads Agency’s work along the corridor linking Alexandra to key economic metros.
They will then proceed to the Jukskei River and one of the hostels in Alexandra.
The operation will deliver a range of services with the goal of transforming basic service delivery in high-density, economically strategic precincts, reclaiming public spaces, and enforcing by-laws.

The programme is being executed in collaboration with various city departments and entities, including the Johannesburg Roads Agency, City Power, Johannesburg Water, Pikitup, and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD).
Mabaso said this is the city’s bid to tackle service delivery backlogs and decaying infrastructure, ensuring that essential services reach the people.
