Three young athletes from Run Alex have been selected to represent Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) at the upcoming Athletics South Africa Cross Country Championships.

This is a milestone the club says reflects the strength of its junior development programme in Alexandra.
Sihle Sitheni, Takalani Msibi, and Malesela Masetloa will represent the club under the provincial banner on September 5 at the national championships.

Run Alex junior development director Anelisa Mzimazi expressed immense pride in the trio’s selection, describing it as a major achievement for the athletes, their families, and the club.

“It is a reflection of the hard work, commitment, and consistency that these young champions have shown throughout the season,” Mzimazi said.

She added that the achievement speaks to the broader impact of the club’s junior programme and its ongoing commitment to creating opportunities for young athletes from Alexandra to grow, compete and realise their potential.

“For us, these three athletes represent more than just sporting talent. They are an example of what is possible when young people are given the right support, guidance and opportunities,” she said.
Sitheni acknowledged that the selection boiled down to God’s favour, her coaches’ support, and their belief in her.

“I was so happy and emotional when I heard about the selection, and thank God because without him, it would not be possible,” Sitheni said.

She said it would be a great honour to represent CGA in Pretoria.

Masetloa said the news came as a surprise given the tough competition, but credited his success to hard work during training. “I really feel so proud of myself because I will be competing under CGA, and it has been years since I’ve wanted to compete wearing CGA colours.”

Msibi also expressed delight at her selection, noting that rigorous training was key to overcoming the stiff competition.

“Training is not easy, it is hard and everyone knows. But thanks to my mother, father and all my friends for their support and my coaches who have had faith in me and supported me,” she said.

The club said it was looking forward to watching the athletes compete on the national stage under the CGA banner, carrying the name of Alexandra with them.

“We wish them all the very best and will be cheering them on every step of the way,” Mzimazi said.
