Sassa December grants kick off on Tuesday with festive boost for millions

Early payouts help beat holiday costs as agency pushes for detail checks from beneficiaries.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has locked in its December 2025 social grant payment dates, with disbursements starting early to give over 19 million beneficiaries a head start on festive spending. As families gear up for the holidays, Sassa is calling on recipients to double-check their personal and banking details right away to dodge any last-minute snags.

Older persons grants lead the way on December 2, followed by disability grants on December 3. All children’s grants, including child support, foster child, and care dependency, plus other grants, roll out on December 4.

Funds hit bank accounts on those dates, or can be grabbed in cash at Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, Boxer, or official Sassa pay point. The R370 social relief of distress (SRD) grant comes later, normally between December 24 and 30. Sassa points out that money sits in accounts until withdrawn, so no panic queuing is needed on payout day.

Grant amounts hold steady after the October tweak from the 2025 budget speech. Older persons grants stand at R2 315 for ages 60–74 and R2 335 for 75 and older. Disability and care dependency grants are R2 315 each. Child support grants are R560 per child, foster child Grants R1 250 per child, and grant-in-aid is R560.

Bank deposits are the go-to for safe, speedy access. Cash draws work at retail spots with a Sassa card or at pay points and Post Offices, where crowds build up fast. Sassa hammers home, never hand over PINs or card info. For snags, dial the toll-free line 0800 60 10 11 or pop into your nearest Sassa office.
