Petrol prices to spike up during this festive season

Bad news for December road trips as petrol is going up 20–26 cents a litre from midnight Wednesday.

South African motorists have one last day of cheaper fuel. From tomorrow, December 3, the price of petrol will rise by around 20 cents (93-octane) to 26 cents (95-octane) per litre.

The hike is driven by higher international oil prices as the northern hemisphere heads into winter, even though the rand put up a small fight.

Inland prices will climb to roughly R21.17 for 93 and R21.37 for 95. Coastal drivers pay about 83 cents less.

Diesel is taking a bigger knock (64–81 cents up), so expect knock-on price increases on groceries and transport soon.

Bottom line: If your tank is low, fill up before the pumps flip at midnight. You’ll still be paying less than this time last year, but every cent counts in December.
