Ward 107 councillor stands by his word with ward‑wide clean‑up campaign

Councillor Floyd Ngwenya’s call for the community to take responsibility and care for their environment was not just empty talk, but a mission he lived out over the weekend as he led Ward 107 residents in a clean-up campaign on 6th Avenue.

Councillor Floyd Ngwenya, of Ward 107, has shown that his promise to promote environmental care is more than words.

On Saturday, he joined residents in a hands‑on cleaning campaign along 6th Avenue, ridding the street of litter and unclogging storm water drains.

Ngwenya has long spoken about the importance of collective responsibility in keeping Alexandra clean. This weekend’s initiative demonstrated that he is standing by his word, taking ownership of his ward and leading by example. “In each and every street, we must make sure that we keep our environment clean. We are encouraging people that wherever space you find yourself in, please make sure that you take good care of it.”

His campaign reinforced his message that environmental responsibility begins at home, and every resident has a role to play in maintaining a healthy environment, especially in a community that is battered with high levels of illegal dumping.

He emphasised that by unclogging storm water drains, the campaign also addressed a practical concern, preventing flooding and damage during heavy rains. “This is an initiative that we started. We are working as a community just to make sure that our storm water drains are clean, so that whenever it rains, we do not have issues. We are doing our best to meet the government halfway.”

His actions showed that community action is important in addressing some of the challenges in Alexandra, and underscored the councillors’ vision of a community where residents take pride in their surroundings, and work together to solve problems.

The councillor encouraged all residents of Ward 107 to participate in the ward‑wide initiative, stressing that keeping the environment clean is not only about aesthetics; it’s about safety, and community pride.
