Police, private security, and emergency services rushed to a mall in Alexandra on Monday following a suspected robbery near the taxi rank entrance.

The scenes at the mall are chaotic with a police helicopter flying just overhead, and a number of ambulances on the scene. Armed officers are visible around the mall’s entrance near the taxi rank.

Shoppers and commuters are advised to avoid the mall entrance while authorities work the scene.

Earlier, the Gauteng provincial joint operations committee shared a report about the robbery in progress at the mall, noting that they received reports of shots being fired in the area.

They further noted that members of the public are advised to avoid the area for their own safety.
