Guard injured following suspected robbery at Alex Mall

A cash-in-transit crew member sustained a gunshot wound following a suspected robbery at Alex Mall.

A cash-in-transit guard sustained a gunshot wound during a suspected robbery at Alex Mall on February 23 and was taken to the hospital.

A source privy to the incident revealed that two suspects allegedly robbed the guard and made off with his firearm and a bag that had reportedly been collected from a store inside the mall.

Witnesses reported seeing a commotion as people rushed out of the mall, while the two suspects also ran toward the exit.

At the same time, another guard, who was reportedly inside the CIT vehicle at the time of the robbery, fired several shots at the suspects. It remains unclear if any of the suspects were hit. However, reports indicate that both suspects managed to flee into nearby houses in River Park.

At the scene, police cordoned off two areas, one around the cash-in-transit vehicle and another around two Avanza taxis. It is not yet clear why the Avanzas were also cordoned off. The mall’s glass door showed visible cracks, indicating it may have been shot at during the robbery.

Shortly after the incident, videos started circulating on social media. In one clip, a man purported to be one of the suspects was found in one of the houses near the intersection of Lenin Drive and London Road, and subsequently apprehended.

The incident caused massive congestion at the intersection of London Road and Lenin Drive, slowing traffic along the stretch leading down from the N3 off‑ramp.

This is a developing story, and both the mall and the police have yet to comment or share details about the incident.
