Run Alex Athletics Club launches a Read Alex initiative
The Run Alex Athletic Club in partnership with Gomora telenovela, Shaka Ilembe and McDonald has launched a Read Alex initiative for the children in Alexandra to promote literacy and community engagement.
The community of Alexandra is set to experience a literary renaissance with the launch of the Read Alex Club.
With a vast collection of books, facilities, and appropriate reading games, Read Alex will aim to promote literacy, foster a love for reading, and empower youngsters in Alexandra.

Junior director for Run Alex Siphiwe Nkosi said, “Today we are launching our Reading Club. It’s a programme that intends to get children in the habit of reading, loving books and studying.”
Leanne Khumalo, the executive producer of Gomora, a soapie on DStv and partners with Run Alex, said, “Gomora has been a proud supporter of Run Alex for some time, and we are really looking forward to also being on the journey supporting Read Alex. As a company, we are really passionate about supporting children and we will bring in guest speakers that will further support the children as the programme develops.

“We are hoping that with this initiative, the children will have a facility and space where they can come and read and study and also go to even after school to get the support they need to develop their intellectual capacity and understanding of issues through the reading of books.”
The launch of the Read Alex in Alexandra represents a significant milestone in the community’s journey towards knowledge, literacy, and community support, and one of the learners who will benefit is Kamogelo Mapheto who struggles to read English.

“Run Alex has helped me so much and today as they are launching Read Alex, this will help me improve my English because I cannot read English properly, “ Mapheto said.
