The court granted the application but ordered that this must also apply to the Khumalo and the Masebe families in aggravation of sentence for the convict. The late Thando was Sipho Masebe’s adopted son as instructed by Masebe’s late sister just before she passed on. The magistrate said two social workers must be appointed, one for the convict and the other for the two families.
In his confession in court, Magolego said he accepted full responsibility for the murder of the schoolboy and ‘I don’t want to waste the court’s time as I feel remorseful for what I did’.
