Work permit stands between Chapomba and premiership football dreams

ABC Motsepe League side JBM is believed to be waiting on the wings to sign Chapomba once he produces the work permit.

A goal-poaching young Zimbabwean immigrant with ambitions to advance his blossoming soccer career cannot realise his dream because he cannot afford the cost of a work permit.

Kudakwashe ‘Chapomba’ Whiskey (23) has poached 36 goals in the recently ended Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association’s Promotional League and also scored on debut for Norwood Young Stars after only arriving in the league close to midway. He said his ambitions were firmly focused on ultimately playing in the Betway Premiership.
After his scintillating performances in the league and his cunning knack for goals, Chapomba, whose nickname comes from one of the potent local traditional brews of beer in his native homeland (considered more potent than whiskey), was spotted by JBM FC.

Chapomba then spent time training with them and the club was said to have been impressed and asked him to process his permit so they could register him with Safa’s ABC Motsepe League in which JBM plies its trade.
He said he admired South African great Mamelodi Sundowns’ Themba ‘Mshishi’ Zwane, describing him as playing simple and effective football, along with Diogo Jota of Liverpool.
Chapomba said he may not be one of the most skillful players on the pitch but he gets the job of scoring goals done. “Matches are not won by the skills you display on the pitch but by how good you are at scoring those crucial goals to win you the match,” he added.
But all this is now in jeopardy as the diminutive Chapomba does not have the financial muscle to acquire the work permit. “I just pray a miracle can happen or a good Samaritan comes to my rescue so I can realise my football career that has the potential not just to change my life but those of my family, including those back home in Zim.”
His father, Ernest a social football player, scrapes a meagre living from some odd jobs he does. “I just keep my fingers crossed for a miracle,” Chapomba concluded.
