Broos cannot tell me whom to play in my team, fumes Mngqithi

Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi would like to have a one-on-one with Hugo Broos to iron out the differences.

A furious Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has hit out at Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos over remarks he made about Masandawana’s decision to not regularly play star midfielder Teboho Mokoena.
He was speaking at a press conference ahead of his weekend’s encounter with Lamontville Golden Arrows in the Carling Knockout last round 16. Asked whether he had seen the social media messaging about Mokoena, Mngqithi said, “Broos is just talking. He must manage his team and I will manage mine.

“I cannot be expected to be told by another coach how to manage my family. If we respect one another’s decisions, we are bound to go a long way. We need to get together and iron out this misunderstanding and I will endeavour to seek a meeting with him.”
Mngqithi took the opportunity to give feedback on Themba Zwane’s injury in the Bafana game, saying preliminary reports indicated he could be out for three to four months but hopes to get better feedback on his condition once he’s been operated upon.

While praising Arrows for giving him his first coaching stint and including unknown players who turned out to be stars, the Downs mentor said he expected a complex game with the hope of containing the opponent’s marauding attackers.
Praising Orlando Pirates for its good run in cup competitions, Mngqithi said his charges had also done well in other competitions. “I can assure you that we are in any competition to win it but we may falter here and there but that does not diminish our goals and intentions.”
Pirates, the newly crowned cup specialists, is expected to have a walk in the park when it locks horns with Betway Premiership maidens Magesi FC, which will be the fourth cup competition the Buccaneers will be involved in within a space of two months.
With the absence of tough defender Olisa Ndah, Bucs mentor Jose Riveiro conceded he might find it tough shutting out teams’ attackers in the way Ndah does.
“I will focus on the players at hand and hope they too can come to the party and ensure our continued success in cup competitions. We are an all-round team that doesn’t rely on individual players and any player we field is expected to do the job,” Riveiro said.
Riveiro thanks his 12th player, the supporters of the team, who always find it in them to encourage the team even in the darkest of times, which he said had always given them that impetus to come from behind and win some difficult matches.
Kaizer Chiefs’ Nasreddine Nabi said he expects to give a good account on the day against SuperSport United, which he described as ‘very aggressive tactically and coached by one of the best in the country.
United’s Gavin Hunt said he was well aware of what to expect from Chiefs but his side was ready to give as much as it gets. “We are in the rebuilding phase of the team but we will do our best to stamp our authority too,” Hunt said.
