Alexandra Field Band scoops top honours at national championships
Alexandra Field Band lit up DP Wanderers Stadium, earning top spots in percussion, dance, and show design at the 25th Annual Field Band National Championships.
In just 12 minutes, the Alexandra Field Band left spectators, proud parents, and Alexandra residents in awe at the DP Wanderers Stadium on October 11.
Their performance, at the 25th Annual Field Band National Championships, was a true showcase of Alexandra’s talent, culminating in a sweep of accolades across multiple categories.
The band won first place for Best Pit Percussion and Monthly Project Scorecard Winner 2025. They also secured second place in Sport Squad, Best Dance, Creative Excellence, Best Show Design, and the overall National Championships.

Programme officer Phumzile Twala praised the band’s dedication, noting that they had put in a lot of work preparing for the championships.
The band was finally showcasing skills at the long-awaited championship that had been almost a year in the making, involving multiple bands from across different provinces. All the bands were gunning for the national title, in celebration of music, movement, and youth empowerment.

Thwala also lauded some of the bands that were performing for the first time, and yet equally rocked the stage, leaving the crowds in high spirits. “I am so proud of the bands that performed. They showed us wonderful performances and I think they really did well.”
Thwala also extended heartfelt gratitude to the parents behind the scenes. “I am also saying to them that they are winners, because they made this possible.”

The Field Band Foundation also honoured the Alexandra Field Band staff for their behind-the-scenes excellence. Social officer Neo Rammopo received the Woman of the Year Award, for her commitment to the well-being of band members and staff.

The award is meant to honour and celebrate women who uplift those around them, inspire growth, and lead by example in their communities and bands.
The foundation described her as a beacon of exceptional leadership, resilience, and heart, whose impact reaches far beyond rehearsals.
