Urgent safety recalls for major vehicle manufacturers in SA
Jeep and Ford have announced immediate safety recalls for their 2016 and 2018 Jeep Wranglers (model 323), and certain 2025 and 2026 Ford Ranger double-cabs.
Two major vehicle manufacturers have announced immediate safety recalls affecting thousands of popular models on South African roads.
Stellantis South Africa has recalled all 2016 and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles (model code 323) due to a critical fault in the frontal airbag system. The defect may prevent the driver and front-passenger airbags from deploying properly during a collision, significantly increasing the risk of injury in the event of an accident.

The Automobile Association of South Africa has confirmed that all affected vehicles must be brought in for inspection and repair without delay. The remedy, which includes replacement of faulty components where necessary, will be performed free of charge at any authorised Jeep dealership.
In a separate announcement, Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has issued a safety recall for certain 2025 and 2026 Ford Ranger double-cab models, built within a specific production period.
The recall was triggered by a potential defect in the brake vacuum pump that can lead to a sudden loss of brake boost assistance. Drivers may experience a harder brake pedal, longer stopping distances, and illuminated warning lights or audible chimes. While basic braking function remains intact, the loss of power assistance substantially reduces braking effectiveness, particularly in emergency situations.
Ford has stressed that all identified vehicles must be inspected urgently. The repair involves replacing the affected vacuum pump and will be carried out at no cost to the owner.
Motorists are advised not to ignore recall notices, as the identified defects present serious safety risks.

The Automobile Association supports the recalls and encourages all affected owners to respond promptly to protect themselves and other road users.
