Mogorosi Foundation brings smiles to the elderly through a Christmas party

The Mogorosi Foundation continued its tradition of spreading festive cheer at Joseph Gerald Old Age Home, hosting a Christmas party that brought joy and a sense of belonging to elderly residents.

Mogorosi Foundation, a long-standing supporter of Joseph Gerald Old Age Home, once again put smiles on the faces of elderly residents who live at the home.

As part of their annual tradition, the foundation hosted a Christmas party for the elders on December 16, bringing joy to all, including those who often feel abandoned by their families.

More than the gifts and groceries, which the foundation occasionally donates to the home, what made the elderly’s day special was the presence of the Mogorosi Foundation’s team, at least according to the home’s manager, Thandiwe Makhubela.

“Some of them do not get visitors. Some will be visiting their families, but some do not have those families [to visit], so they will be here,” she said.

She emphasised that it was the foundation’s presence that mattered more to the elderly. “It reduces stress and illnesses. When people are happy, they don’t stress and fall ill.”

Employees at the home noted how such initiatives create the needed atmosphere of jubilation.

Makhubela acknowledged the foundation’s dedication and commitment, noting that it is not everyone who can do what they do.

“Every year, you make time in your busy schedule to be with our elders. Even during the year, you do visit us and bring groceries, and that is something we need,” Makhubela shared.

The foundation’s Lebogang Mogorosi said they give mainly because they already feel gifted with enough to make a difference. “I feel like God has already gifted and has given the strength to make a difference in the lives of those who [themselves] cannot make a difference.”

Furthermore, he said the season at hand is a season to give and foster festive cheer. “Christmas is all about giving, it is all about family, spending time with the loved ones and exchanging gifts,” he added.

He said that last year’s Christmas party was relatively small compared to this year’s celebration, and similarly, next year’s celebration will be even bigger.

Additionally, Mogorosi acknowledged the wonderful work that the nurses at the home are doing, emphasising that it demands patience and perseverance.

“We promise that we will come with something just to show appreciation for the wonderful work you guys are doing,” he shared.
