Alex Mall robbery suspects flee with undisclosed cash

UPDATE: Police have opened a case of cash‑in‑transit robbery and attempted murder following Monday’s violent incident at Alex Mall, where suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police have confirmed that the suspects behind Monday’s cash‑in‑transit robbery at Alex Mall escaped with an undisclosed amount of money.

Initial reports from sources suggested that the two suspects fled toward nearby River Park houses immediately after the robbery. However, police later clarified that the suspects, whose exact number has not yet been established, escaped using two Toyota Avanzas.

Yesterday, the publication reported that one guard sustained a gunshot wound during the incident. Police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed the shooting of a security guard, noting that the victim is receiving medical treatment.

In a statement shared with Alex News, police did not divulge any more details regarding the firearm of the injured security guard, which, according to a source privy to the incident, was reportedly taken by the suspects.

Despite multiple reports and videos indicating that a man purported to be one of the suspects was apprehended, police clarified that no suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Sibeko said investigations are underway and has urged anyone with information that may assist with the investigation to contact the police.
