Alexandra Northrand LFA re-elects leadership, eyes growth and facility revival
With the re-election of chairperson Pheega Seanego and other executives, the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association looks to strengthen governance, revive coaching development, and tackle facility challenges.
The Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association’s (ANLFA) annual general meeting reflected on the association’s growth for the period ending December 2025, highlighting commendable improvements across multiple areas, particularly finances.
Several members were re-elected into executive positions, including chairperson Pheega Seanego, vice chairperson Eric Paul, secretary general Malvin Khumalo, and treasurer Mxolisi Mngomezulu. Duduzile Myeki was newly elected as a female vice chairperson.

Reflecting on the appointments, Seanego said the continuity offers an opportunity to strengthen the association further.
“The feeling is really great, and the continuity is very important for us to continue with the journey we started four years ago. It is very important for us,” said Seanego.
He noted that Alexandra has produced great leaders such as Dr Irvin Khoza and the late Dr Leepile Taunyane. He emphasised that the current mandate to grow soccer administration and leadership now lies with them.
When Mngomezulu presented the audited financial statement, showing significant improvement in the association’s finances, he stressed that the next executive will benefit from a stronger financial footing. Furthermore, he said they must continue working hard to secure sponsorships and donations.
Seanego said that is exactly what they intend to do. “We will be able to improve. Remember, our LFA was not complying in terms of seeking funds and donations. But now we have worked hard to ensure compliance, and we will be capable of getting those funds.”
Despite financial progress, the association acknowledged ongoing challenges, particularly limited facility availability. Khumalo noted that the closure of Alexandra Stadium due to safety non-compliance forced reliance on alternative venues such as SafeHub, Peterson Park, and Marlboro, leading to fixture backlogs. He emphasised the need for strategic stakeholder engagement to expand facility access and ensure the timely completion of competitions.
Seanego added that their improved financial position could help resolve issues at the now-closed Alexandra Stadium.

“The City of Johannesburg gave us the go-ahead that if we can secure funds to fix Alex Stadium, they would not have a problem with that,” he said.
Another critical issue highlighted in the standing committee report was the lack of consistent coaching workshops. Seanego confirmed that the association now has a technical director and plans to revive coaching development initiatives.
“We are going to sit and revive those coaching workshops because it is very important to align all coaches so they can improve and share ideas in Alexandra,” he said.
With uncontested re-elections signalling growing trust in their leadership, Seanego concluded that the association is now gearing toward good governance and strong administration, determined to build on the progress of the past four years.
