UIF Online records rise in processed claims as old employee portal closes

Nomakhosazana Meth, Minister of Employment and Labour, says UIF Online improved claims processing and benefit access, while cautioning against misinformation about the transition from the legacy uFiling system.

Minister of Employment and Labour Nomakhosazana Meth has defended the unemployment insurance fund’s (UIF) new online platform, UIF Online, following recent public criticism and unverified claims about the system.

The UIF launched UIF Online on April 1 to replace the legacy uFiling employee claims portal. According to the department, the platform improves claims processing through direct submissions, real-time tracking, and automated communication.

It also allows clients to submit claims without assistance from third-party agents.

By April 2026, UIF Online had processed and paid 4 558 971 claims. During the same review period, the UIF processed and paid 4 099 522 claims in 2023, and 3 547 006 claims in 2024, under the legacy uFiling system.

The department said the figures show improved access to benefits and better service delivery.

The old employee claims portal officially closed on May 20, after legal and contractual disputes linked to the old system were resolved. The department assured clients that no applications were lost and confirmed that submitted applications are being analysed, verified, and migrated to UIF Online.

The employer portal remains operational and is expected to migrate to UIF Online by August.

Meth warned against the spread of misinformation that could create uncertainty among workers and beneficiaries relying on UIF services.

“While constructive scrutiny is welcomed, the spread of misinformation and unverified claims can undermine public confidence and cause unnecessary panic.”
