Robbery and carjacking suspects nabbed within minutes in Alexandra

Three men suspected of a violent house robbery in Edenvale were tracked and arrested in Alexandra within half an hour.

Three men suspected of committing a house robbery in Edenvale were arrested in Alexandra on June 2.

According to the police, members of the Johannesburg Flying Squad, together with private security company, Community Active Protection (CAP), acted on information regarding a house robbery that had occurred within the Edenvale policing precinct on Tuesday.

The suspects, travelling in a red Volkswagen Polo, were identified and traced to Alexandra, where their vehicle was intercepted at the intersection of London Road and Bushy More Street near Alex Mall.

“Police found three occupants inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of housebreaking implements,” police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said.

Sibeko said further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported hijacked within the Honeydew policing precinct.

“The three suspects were subsequently arrested for possession of stolen property, possession of housebreaking implements, and possession of a hijacked motor vehicle,” she noted.

According to CAP, the men had entered the Dunvegan Secure Village in Edenvale at 16:00, where they reportedly committed the crime, leaving one victim with injuries.

The private security company said the suspects were swiftly traced within 26 minutes and arrested in Alexandra.
