Unconfirmed reports indicated that a scuffle between the two men may have escalated into the fatal stabbing of the victim. The suspect fled immediately after the attack, but was later found in Silver Town, and apprehended by the community. This was after his images were circulated on social media.

Chairperson of the Community Policing Forum Sibabalo Mgijima confirmed that the suspect was subsequently handed over to the police for questioning and further investigations.
