GRAPHIC CONTENT: Man discovered dead with gunshot wounds near Madala Hostel

A 38‑year‑old man was discovered on 4th Avenue with fatal gunshot wounds to his upper body.

Police in Alexandra are investigating a murder case after a 38-year-old man was found dead with gunshot wounds near Madala Hostel late on July 12.

Officers attended the scene early on Monday morning, July 13, cordoning off the area as they combed for evidence.

According to Johannesburg District police, officers responded to a complaint and, upon arrival at the scene, discovered the victim lying on the side of the road along 4th Avenue.

Constable Dakalo Phemula revealed that the man had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and was certified dead at the scene.

“No arrests have been made at this stage, and the motive for the killing is still unknown,” he noted.

He added that detectives from the Alexandra Police Station are continuing with the investigation.

Police have appealed to the public for assistance, noting that anyone with information that could help the case is urged to contact SAPS Alexandra or the national Crime Stop line.

This latest fatal shooting comes amid intensified efforts by local police to curb crime in the area.

On Saturday, under the command of Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, the police carried out Operation Shanela II to tackle crime in the community.

The operation resulted in the arrest of more than 50 people for various offences and the closure of four liquor outlets for contravening the Liquor Act.
