Fake Johannesburg Water meter reader jobs advertised online
Job seekers are being warned after a fraudulent advertisement claiming Johannesburg Water is hiring hundreds of metre readers began circulating on social media.
The fake post, which uses official-looking Johannesburg Water and City of Johannesburg logos, claims 330 meter reader positions are available in Johannesburg. It lists a monthly package of R20 136 and targets applicants aged between 18 and 45. Would-be candidates are directed to an unofficial website or a link in a social media bio to apply.

Johannesburg Water has confirmed the advertisement is not genuine. All legitimate vacancies with the utility are advertised only on its official careers website and through its verified social media channels.
Members of the public are urged to ignore the circulating advert, avoid clicking any links contained in it, and never share personal information or make payments in response. Anyone who has already engaged with the post should report the matter to Johannesburg Water or the police.
