Is’camtho so’ mshoza Volume 2 empowers Alexandra youth
Is’camtho so’ mshoza Volume 2 returns to Thusong Youth Centre, offering young people practical pathways and space for personal growth.
Alexandra socio-artist and community organiser Mantala Nkoatse will bring Is’camtho so’ mshoza Volume 2 to Thusong Youth Centre on October 29 from 10:00 to 13:00. The free session is open to all genders aged 18 and above and aims to connect young people with skills development, real opportunities and personal wellness.
Nkoatse, who is organising the event in collaboration with iSkills Development, TalaNation, and Sankofa womb healing, said the gathering creates space for young people to access information and explore possibilities for their futures, regardless of educational background or work experience.

“A key highlight of the programme will be the skills development session hosted by iSkills Development,” Nkoatse said. “Participants will learn more about opportunities available to young people, including those who do not have matric certificates or previous work experience. The session aims to help young people better understand the possibilities available to them, become more informed about potential pathways and feel encouraged to take steps towards their personal and professional goals.”
She explained that the event goes further than simply sharing information. “Beyond sharing information, the event seeks to address the uncertainty and discouragement that many young people experience when navigating unemployment, limited resources and a lack of access to information,” said Nkoatse. “By bringing opportunity-focused conversations into a community setting, Is’camtho so’ mshoza Volume 2 aims to remind young people that their current circumstances do not have to define their future.”

Wellness is equally central. “The programme will also incorporate wellness activities, including breathwork, mindful movement, meditation and sound healing, creating an opportunity for participants to pause, reconnect with themselves and approach their personal journeys with greater awareness,” Nkoatse said.
She stressed that true empowerment requires more than information alone. “The initiative recognises that empowering young people involves more than providing information about opportunities,” she said. “It also means creating spaces where they can feel supported, build confidence and become more aware of their potential.”

Nkoatse invited every young person who is looking for opportunities, has no matric certificate, lacks work experience, or simply wants to learn more on behalf of a friend, sibling or someone in the community. “This session is an opportunity to gain useful information and engage with others who share an interest in youth development,” she said.
Is’camtho so’ mshoza Volume 2, she added, is grounded in the belief that access to information can open doors, collaboration can strengthen communities, and every young person deserves the opportunity to explore a better future.
