Maths wizards in the making at Skeen

Learners at Skeen Primary School are falling in love with simplified maths that is being dished out by the My Maths Buddy programme to equip the Grade 4s' understanding of the subject concepts at the Alex school.

Skeen Primary School in Alexandra in partnership with My Maths Buddy is working to produce maths wizards at the school by equipping both teachers and learners with skills to better teach and understand the subject respectively.

This programme is aimed at providing teachers and learners with essential maths skills through comprehensive training. The teachers underwent the Effective Maths Teacher Training Programme to improve their skills in teaching the subject.
Through this training, teachers are said to have gained a comprehensive understanding of maths terminology and received well-deserved certificates upon completion, accredited by the South African Council of Educators. It allowed educators to enhance their teaching techniques and ensure that learners grasp mathematical concepts effectively.

After completing the programme, the final part of the training was the establishment workshop for the My Maths Buddy Club in which teachers learnt how to effectively structure their lessons and share their newly acquired tools and skills with their learners.
“The programme has taught me a lot, especially in terms of teaching methods that help learners truly understand concepts without missing any vital information during a lesson,” one of the teachers said of the training.

These are some of the maths wizards in the making at Skeen Primary School.

My Maths Buddy training manager Brandin Prolad urged all schools in the township to become part of this programme, and said the participation of Skeen would ‘undeniably contribute to making the school one of the best-performing institutions in terms of academic achievement’.
