Our finances are stabilising, says Seanego

Alex Northrand LFA president Joe Seanego says they will not rest until the unaccounted R70 000 is settled.

The president of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association Joe Seanego is a ‘happy man that sleeps peacefully at night knowing the financial status of the LFA is stable and improving’.

Speaking soon after the association’s AGM on January 22, Seanego said he was not in a position to say the LFA’s financial status was good or bad but that it would be safe to say it was in the middle of the road.

“When we took over the administration in early 2022, we found the coffers of the LFA in bad shape, with more than R70 000 unaccounted for but we have managed to steer the ship out of the turbulent waters though we’re not out of the woods yet.

“I can safely say I am a happy man who sleeps peacefully at night knowing the financial status of the LFA is stabilising and improving all the time. We will not rest until the matter of the R70 000 that was unaccounted for is settled,” said Seanego, a former boss of Gomora United and Baberwa FC.

Seanego said the LFA was on the verge of appointing a marketer whose sole responsibility would be to ensure sponsors and partners were brought to the table so the league’s finances could be stabilised.

“We are currently in talks with the National Lotteries Board and keeping our fingers crossed that the deal we are negotiating can materialise. This would solve our nightmares and put the finances firmly in the saddle.”

Turning to the lack of Alexandra-based players playing in the Premier Soccer League, the last one being Lebogang Manyama, Seanego admitted football lovers were yearning for such players.

“We’re hard at work to get our talented players up there and already a couple have gone to TS Galaxy and Mamelodi Sundowns.”

He said getting talented Alex players into premier division soccer and the Bafana Bafana fold were some of the yardsticks for measuring the success of the LFA.
