Your chance to be a flag bearer for Springboks

JOBURG - Spur is offering this once in a lifetime opportunity for children from Alexandra and other areas to be flag bearers at a rugby match in October.

The adrenalin is pumping, your hands are sweaty and the excitement is almost too much to bear. The roar of a stadium filled with thousands of fans urges you on as you walk onto the pitch carrying the nation’s flag with pride.

As goose bumps run down your arms, ‘Nkosisikelel’ iAfrika’ fills the air and you stand on the same field as the South African rugby giants while millions watch on TV. This is what memories are made of and Spur is offering this once in a lifetime opportunity for children from Alexandra and other areas.

If you are between eight and 12 years old, you could be standing on the same field as two national teams, the best of the best in the sporting world at the next South Africa vs New Zealand Test Match at Ellis Park Stadium, Johannesburg, on 5 October.

Ellis Park Stadium is the legendary stadium that hosted the incredible 1995 Rugby World Cup final between these same two rugby giants where after a nail-biting win for South Africa, Nelson Mandela presented Francois Pienaar with the William Webb Ellis trophy, the two men united the whole nation in victory.

About 20 flag bearers are needed to savour the match day atmosphere along with one parent or guardian who will also receive a ticket to the Test. The children will be divided into two teams that will carry each nation’s giant flag for the pre-match ceremony.

This game will be the final of the rugby championship and the two arch-rivals have not gone head-to-head at this venue in eight years – this is not to be missed and is destined to be a sensational, action-packed match.

All that needs to be done to stand a chance to win is to go to Spur between 30 July and 30 August, enjoy any meal on the kids menu, and swipe your secret tribe card to enter the competition. Becoming a member of Spur’s Secret Tribe is free and comes with a whole host of fun and special birthday privileges.
