Are you man enough to take the pledge

JOBURG - A new initiative by Vaseline Men, the skincare sponsor of the Springboks, known as the 'Fan of The Match' campaign runs throughout the Castle Rugby Championship home tests and aims to keep the game tidy - both on and off the field.

In keeping with SA’s commemoration of the significant Nelson Mandela Sports Day, the campaign will officially launch at the first test between Argentina and South Africa at the FNB Stadium on 17 August. The key objective of the campaign will be to celebrate and reward SA rugby fans who have respect for the game, the opposition and other supporters, and who show good sportsmanship in the stadium.

“We’re launching the ‘Fan of The Match’ campaign for two reasons,” said Vaseline brand manager Ryan Gosling. “Firstly, to promote responsible behaviour off the field, so that live games can be enjoyed by everyone and not only a select few. This is in Vaseline’s best interest as we know Springbok supporters are our consumers and we want them to have the best experience possible at the game.

“Secondly as the skin care sponsor of the Springboks we wanted to find a way to meet our marketing objectives, while still having the opportunity to give something back to the game of rugby. In our opinion it’s a three-way-win for Vaseline, the fans and the game, and we hope the public gets 100 percent behind the initiative.”

As part of the campaign, the Vaseline Fan Stand will be set up at all three home tests in the Castle Rugby Championship, where fans can take a quick five-question survey to determine what type of fan they are and pledge their support to tackle dirty play off the field.

Anyone who completes the short survey and pledges to uphold the ‘Fan of The Match’ values will be automatically entered into a draw for instant prizes. These include Vaseline grooming kits, autographed mini rugby balls, iPod Nanos, signed Springbok jerseys and the grand prize, getting to sing the national anthem pitch side with the Boks before each of the tests kick off.

So be the man – get down to the game, pledge your support at the Vaseline Fan Stand and become one of SA’s greatest rugby fans.
