SuperSport takes on Tunisian giants

JOBURG - SuperSport United travel to Tunisia to take on powerhouse Etoile Sportif du Sahel in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup.

SuperSport United will make the long journey to Tunisia this weekend to take on powerhouse Etoile Sportif du Sahel in the Confederations of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup.

The match will be played on 22 March.

Kick-off is scheduled for 4pm South African time at the Stade Olympique de Sousse Stadium in Tunis. Matsatsantsa beat Kenyan outfit AFC Leopards in the last round of the Confederations Cup, winning 4-2 on aggregate to make it to the second round.

United coach Cavin Johnson knows it will be a massive task to win in front of the fervent fans at the home side’s stadium, especially after the hosts’ recent first round victory over CARA Brazzaville to qualify for this stage of the competition.

“You can see how important it is for Etoile Sahel when they play at home,” said Johnson. “They have an impressive record in this competition and it’s important for us to stay composed throughout and get the job done.

“I feel that it’s good for us to play the second leg at home, but for sure you need to get a great result to qualify, that’s why we need to get a result in the first game by playing our game and come back home with something to fight for.”

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs will travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo to face AS Vita in the first leg of the CAF Champions League fixture.

Premier Soccer League CEO Brand de Villiers has wished both team’s well in their CAF sojourns.

“So far, both Chiefs and United have done very well in preliminary stages of the continental club championships,” he said. “We will be fully behind them this weekend as they play these important matches and also during the return leg here at home.

“It is important that our clubs qualify for the group stages and go as far as possible in both the Champions League and the Confederations Cup. I wish both clubs the best of luck this weekend and during the return leg.”
