Alex football explains stadium saga

ALEXANDRA - Alex football has written to Safa explaining the stadium saga of 21 March which led to an abandonment of a scheduled match.

The Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association has written a letter to the soccer controlling body in South Africa explaining the stadium saga that led to the abandonment of a scheduled match.

Association secretary general Mafika Morajane said the local body had written to the mother body, the South African Football Association (Safa) to explain the happenings of the day which led to abandonment of the home match between FC Alexandra and Ekurhuleni side Atlie FC.

The match was supposed to take place at 7pm on 21 March at the Alexandra Stadium but had to abandoned due to double booking of the stadium by the City of Johannesburg. The match had initially been scheduled to take place on 22 March but had to be brought back a day earlier in order to accommodate a church crusade.

Morajane said after deliberations with officials of the City’s Region E Sports and Recreation Department, they agreed that the city council would also write an accompanying letter to Safa which would endorse and compliment the letter from Alex football.

“We have not seen that letter up until now. We tend to feel they just promised to write a letter in order to pacify us on the day of the heated meeting,” Morajane alleged.
