Gauteng Sports Awards postponed

ALEXANDRA - The highly anticipated Gauteng Sport Awards ceremony originally scheduled for 7 June has been postponed and will now take place in July.

The highly anticipated Gauteng Sport Awards ceremony originally scheduled for 7 June has been postponed and will now take place in July.

The decision to postpone the event comes after serious consideration of the recent political changes following the elections, which saw the appointment of the new MEC for Sport, Arts Culture and Recreation Molebatsi Bopape, who only resumed her duties just over a week ago.

The move is meant to give Bopape and the new leadership of the province a fair chance to be involved in the process of the awards, and thereby give them enough time to make valuable contributions.

Despite the postponement, all is still on track for the prestigious ceremony meant to reward Gauteng’s cream of the crop of sport.

In line with celebrating 20 years of democracy, the gala award ceremony promises to mesmerise audiences at home with 20 years of golden moments that Gauteng has celebrated and contributed towards social cohesion through sport over the past two decades.

A new date will be officially announced on 10 June during a media conference.
