ALEXANDRA - The Alex Young Lions U15 team has roared all the way to the 2014 Spring championships of local football after beating Brothers Development 3-1 in penalties.

They were crowned champions of the 2014 Alexandra Masters Soccer League/Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association Spring tournament which was played at the Three Square Sports Facility.

Secretary general of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association, Mafika Morajane congratulated the Lions for being crowned champions of the tournament and Brothers Development for reaching the final although beaten.

“There can be only one winner in the tournament but nevertheless, I congratulate Brothers Development for reaching the final which in itself is a milestone for the club and its young players. To the Lions, I say well done for being crowned champions,” Morajane said.

He also congratulated the masters league and its executives for their sponsorship of the tournament which he described as a good omen for the development of football in Alexandra. “I also take my hat off to the various clubs and supporters who graced the tournament and provided us with much needed football spirit.”

The game ended in a 2-all draw at the end of 90 minutes, prompting extra time which also ended in a 3-3 draw. The teams then went into penalties and the Lions won 3-1. The Lions missed only one penalty while their counterparts missed three.
