New date set for Soweto derby

JOBURG - A new date for the much anticipated Soweto derby between giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs will now take place on 6 December.

A new date for the much anticipated Soweto derby between giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs will now take place on 6 December.

The Premier Soccer League has confirmed the new date for the Absa Premiership match, which was scuppered by the death of Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain and goal minder, Senzo Meyiwa who was gunned down at his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s parental home in Spruitview, Vosloorus, on 26 October in a botched robbery.

Meyiwa was buried at his hometown of uMlazi, Durban, on 1 November; the day the fixture had originally been scheduled for. However, this had to postponed as Buccaneers were still in mourning for their slain captain, who was taken at the prime of his career both for the club and the rejuvenated Bafana Bafana.

It will now be played on 6 December at the FNB Stadium, with kick-off set for 3.30pm. The league has confirmed that those who had purchased tickets through Computicket for the initial fixture date will be able to use the same tickets on 6 December.

Computicket said the fixture is already sold out but, due to the changing of the fixture date from 1 November to 6 December, all patrons who had already bought match tickets and will not be able to attend the new match date, will be fully refunded by Computicket outlets nationwide on presentation of the old ticket.

For those still going to the match on the new date, Computicket has confirmed that those tickets brought from their outlets will still be valid on 6 December.
