ALEXANDRA - The local football association will launch a new league for the U8 and U10s when football activity resumes after the festive season.
The Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association will launch a new league for U8s and U10s when football activity resumes after the festive season.
This was disclosed by the association’s secretary general Mafika Morajane during an interview with Alex News. He said the inaugural U8 and U10 leagues would kick off on 17 January and would each involve 16 teams.
“This is a first for our youngsters and I hope it will be an exciting league,” he said. “We want to start developing these children early and ensure they grow up used to playing in a league format so we can identify talent earlier on.”
Morajane said players and clubs, including the technical staff, were looking forward to the launch of this league. “The association has been planning and preparing for this launch for some time now and everybody can’t wait for the official kick-off.”
The association also runs leagues for U13, U15, U17 and U20, including an open league for the seniors which is not governed by age, Morajane said.
