Ntate Molepo Tournament reaches quarter finals
ALEXANDRA - The inaugural Ntate Molepe Tournament reached its quarter-final stages this weekend at the Altrek Sports Complex.
The inaugural Ntate Molepe Tournament reached its quarter-final stages this weekend at the Altrek Sports Complex.
The tournament, under the auspices of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association, involves all nine divisions that play under the association. Ntate Philemon Molepo was one of the top football administrators in South Africa.
He was so passionate about the game, and as a result many of the great footballers in this country went through the hands of this wonderful man including the likes of John Shoes Moshoeu and the late Shakes Kungwane.
William Motshwene, a competitions committee member said, “This is the first time we are having this tournament, and it will be organised annually in honour of this great servant of Alex football, Ntate Molepo.”
The tournament involves teams from U8, U10, U13, U15, U17, U19, U20, senior and masters. The winners in all these categories will receive medals, trophies and a new soccer kit. The finalists from all nine divisions will play at the tournament final at the Alexandra Stadium on the weekend of the 11 and 12 April.
One of the U13 teams involved are Happy Birds FC and coach of the team David Lamola said, “The development of football in Alex is going in the right direction, that is why I tried to get my team under the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association.”
