Who said men cannot play netball?

If you had wanted to disprove that myth, then you should have been at Number 3 Square Grounds in Alexandra to see the men strutting their stuff on the netball court – even better than the women.

This was at the Johannesburg Netball League tournament, where both men and women netball teams from various divisions in the City of Johannesburg’s Regions A to G participated.

Glenton Khoza, netball co-ordinator for Alex Netball Association and secretary of the Johannesburg Netball Association, said they were in the process of selecting a men’s netball team to represent Gauteng in the Gauteng Regional Championships tournament to be played in Pretoria in May.

The team will also take part in the South African National Championships which will take place in Johannesburg from 26 June to 4 July.

Khoza said netball was taking root as a sport for all genders.

“Gone are the days when netball was regarded as a female only sport, in as much as football has also gone female, why can’t netball do the same,” he said, adding that the men paraded with pride on the pitch.
