No changes in football association shows satisfaction

ALEXANDRA - There were no surprises at the elective annual general meeting of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association as the top four leaders of the association were all re-elected.

Also re-elected on 27 April was the chairperson of the association, Maisha Molepo, who beat contender Mxolisi Mngomezulu by 18 votes to six. Mngomezulu is currently the technical director of the association.

Molepo’s deputy, Robert Langa and contender, William Motshwene were both tied on 12 votes apiece. This necessitated the vote of the chairperson in order to break the deadlock. The winner was eventually Langa, with 13 votes to 12 for Motshwene.

The secretary general of the association, Mafika Morajane, along with the treasurer, Rhulani Baloyi were both retained unopposed. All those who had been nominated withdrew in the last minutes just before the vote was taken.

Morajane’s nominated challenger had been Malvin Khumalo, while that of Baloyi was Lazarus Matloga. “Both these candidates will be serving in the board as an additional members,” Morajane said.

Although there were various camps leading up to the AGM, Morajane said the divisions were not serious as the challengers also gracefully accepted defeat or decided to withdraw their nominations to pave the way for the retention of incumbent officers.

As is the norm with all organisations, Morajane said people were free to exercise their rights to nominate whoever they thought would take the association to new heights, and lots of group caucuses did take place until eventually, come election day and time the association’s members cast their votes.

“We would like to thank the various clubs’ chairmen for showing trust in our leadership for the next four-year term and we are assuring them we will do our utmost best to meet their needs. The lack of financial sponsorship to run our league will remain as one of the biggest headaches for the association,” said Morajane.

“But as I indicated, we will do our utmost best to soldier on and won’t let them down. If by any chance we divert from our duties as defined in the constitution, the clubs have all the power to recall us through the passing of a vote of no confidence in our leadership or administration.”

Morajane concluded by thanking the Alex News team, “Especially Sipho Siso, for always giving us the space and coverage in Alex News and on your site. All this is greatly appreciated.”
