Dream comes true for two Alex gogos

ALEXANDRA - The long-standing dream of two Alexandra grannies has finally been realised after their club, Linda Stars FC received a new kit.

The long-standing dream of two Alexandra grannies has finally been realised after their soccer club, Linda Stars FC received new kit.

Maria Cebekhulu (61) and Agens Mithi (52), the co-owners of Linda Stars finally saw their team in new jerseys after struggling to obtain new kit for the players.

Murendeni Nndanduleni, who was a presenter at Alex FM, was the kit sponsor. Nndanduleni said he felt that, in the spirit of the celebration of Youth Month, the kit sponsorship would be a great initiative and would hopefully help the young boys of the club reach their full potential.

“We are talking here about disadvantaged children who are not getting enough support and attention out there,” Nndanduleni said after handing out the kit outside the Pan Africa Mall.

“I felt that I needed to be this young person who is a true inspiration to other young people, that’s why I decided to sponsor them with this kit to make sure that we change their lives.”

The club was formed in 2001 by the two gogos with the aim of taking children off the streets. They have really struggled with facilities and finance, and sometimes use their own money for the benefit of the team.

Cebekhulu, who was in tears as her dream of getting new kit for the boys was realised, said, “I thank those who have sponsored the team. When we started the team, these boys were playing barefooted. God has answered my prayers now my kids can also look like other kids.”
