Alex hopeful of defending the Mayoral Cup

Alexandra’s U17 girls and boys football squads are hoping to retain their championship trophies of the Johannesburg Mayoral Cup tournament.

The tournament takes place on 27 and 28 June in Eldorado Park, and secretary general of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association, Mafika Morajane said the squads were confident of sweeping the boards once again, as they have both done twice in a row.

“It will be interesting to win it again this time, for the third time, and then we get to keep the trophies forever,” said Morajane as he reminded the organisers to prepare for the moulding of new trophies for both the boys and girls squads.

“Alexandra has arrived and we mean business. With the calibre of players at our disposal, I am confident both our squads will go all the way and successfully defend their titles,” he said.

The tournament involves all 11 local football associations under the auspices of the Safa Johannesburg Region.
