Peter Mokaba Stadium to host TKO Final

JOBURG - After the packed Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo, in May for the Nedbank Cup, the venue will once again host yet another cup final.

Football fans in the dusty Limpopo province are in for a second treat of cup football when the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane hosts this year’s Telkom Knockout final between SuperSport United and Cape Town City on 10 December.

This venue was confirmed by the Premier Soccer League with kick-off set for 6pm. This is the second domestic cup final this year to be played at this stadium following the hosting of the Nedbank Cup final in May this year.

As to whether or not Polokwane will become a favourite hunting ground for SuperSport United, after they humiliated Orlando Pirates in the lucrative Nedbank Cup, will be known when the referee blows the final whistle of the knockout final.

The Premier Soccer League together with sponsors Telkom, are pulling out all the stops to ensure that the final becomes a memorable football festival for the people of Limpopo who came in their numbers and packed the stadium for the Nedbank Cup final.

The league hopes they will do the same again in this Telkom Knockout final, and with that in mind, they have lined up a music concert, featuring some of the country’s hottest music talents, which will be but one of the main attractions for the public.

League spokesperson Luxolo September said the names of the music line-up would be announced in the next few days as negotiations were still being finalised.

The league’s acting CEO, Mato Madlala said, “This is not just football but an opportunity for the people of Limpopo to be part of the festivities on 10 December. We know that in December people want to have fun and the music concert is in line with this theme.

“So, we have something for football lovers and also for people who are music enthusiasts at the same time. This year’s Telkom Knockout competition has dished out quality football on the field and it is only apt that we close it in style.”

Jacqui O’Sullivan, Telkom SA group executive for communication and brand marketing, said she was excited about this year’s Telkom Knockout final and looked forward to hosting it at the historic stadium.

Looking back at the great display of quality football in the tournament this season, she said there was no doubt that fans would be treated to another exciting goal-fest encounter.

“We aim to put together a grand finale of unlimited festivity and are working around the clock to ensure that fans have an unforgettable experience.

“If you’re an avid supporter, a local, or just eager for a really epic atmosphere, this is going to be a nail-biter you won’t want to miss,” O’Sullivan added.
