Alexandra Marathon and Fun Walk to be held in May

ALEXANDRA – Organisers of the Alex Marathon and Fun Walk urge the Alex community and those living outside the township to register for the marathon on 14 May.

The Alexandra Marathon and Fun Walk challenges the community of Alexandra and surrounding neighbourhoods to participate in the first official sporting event of this nature in the township.

The event will take place on 14 May at the Altrec Sports Complex in the East Bank section of Alexandra and will start at 7am and end at 3pm.

The organisers of the event are Levy Ledwaba and Sakhile Shabangu, co-founders of the Creative Minds Movement, a youth-orientated non-profit organisation based in Alexandra which contributes to youth development by creating platforms for engagements and interaction with the aim of exchanging ideas and knowledge.

“We as the organising team have responded to the challenge, we are all signed up for the 12km run and we have also extended the challenge to our friends and families.

“Everyone is welcome to respond to the challenge by registering for the marathon and inviting their friends and family from outside of Alex for the Alex Marathon and Fun Walk experience,” said Ledwaba.

The experience consists of a 12km marathon, 5km fun walk and fun fitness activities, and a six-a-side soccer tournament.

“It’s exciting to see people in Alex taking to the streets jogging, we have our own gyms being filled daily and we hope the marathon can encourage more people to lead active lives,” concluded Ledwaba.
