Get ready for the 2018 street aerobics

ALEXANDRA — The street aerobics programme that aims to introduce healthy lifestyles to locals through fun activities, is set to return on 20 January.

The street aerobics fitness campaign which took the township by storm last year will come back bigger and better on 20 January at the Alex stadium at 6.30am.

The campaign is a collaboration between the City of Johannesburg and local fitness agency, Body Boost Groom Fitness Agency and aims to introduce healthy lifestyles to residents through keeping fit.

The agency’s CEO, Catherine Pinky Kekana, said she was excited to start this campaign for the second year.

“Last year was awesome, we received a lot of support from the people. It is through them that this became a success,” Kekana said.

She added that they were hoping that the campaign would be bigger this year.

“More and more people came through as the year progressed and I hope the same happens this year. The plan is to have more people involved and groom more instructors.”

Kekana said they were hoping to introduce the programme to another region, but they would first have to make sure that Alex was fully served.

She made mention of the need for sponsorship to provide some sort of remuneration for instructors.

“Finding work is hard and these instructors do this for free. It would be great to have some sort of compensation so that they see that their hard work does not go unnoticed.

“What the City has done so far is great, but we need more sponsors.”

There were no age restrictions for the programme, but Kekana said they were looking to introduce a development programme for children if there was a need.

“The beauty of the street aerobics is that everyone is welcome, but if we need to have a kiddies aerobics development programme, we can do so.”
