Gunners Football Club has secured promotion to the South African Football Association Promotional League following their crowning as champions of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association Promotional League last weekend.
Although Blue Aces tried to spoil their party by beating them 2–0 in the last match of the league at the Alexandra Stadium, the Gunners had already been crowned champions elect with a game in hand.
But the defeat did not mean they were butchered like lambs to the slaughter as they put up a brave fight in an effort to retain their record of one loss and one draw in the 14-team league. The Gunners managed to end the league season on 31 points from 13 matches, having won 10 games, drawn one and lost two.
Their nearest rivals, Dra FC secured 27 points while the other league hopefuls, Rise Together drifted down the log to finish ninth with 19 points.
The Gunners were crowned champions in the presence of their chairperson John Mahlangu while LRC FC’s Delford Makwala received the Golden Boot Award as the leading goal scorer after finishing the league with 13 goals.
