Tebatso’s selection to participate in the camp was announced by Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty Africa. He was one of the top three aspiring footballers scouted by Alex football legend, Maimane Phiri, out of about 50 other aspirants from the six high schools in Alexandra at the Allianz Football Tournament held in June at the Number 3 Square Grounds.

The other players who completed the top three finalists were Realogile High’s Kabelo Seopa and Lebogang Dolo of Alexandra High School.

Phiri was impressed with Tebatso’s passion for football. “Tebatso is a well-balanced footballer and he has great potential,” he said.

“He has great football skills, tactical awareness and he behaves well on and off the pitch. He has also shown a good grasp of digital technology and future topics such as health and mobility. The [camp] will enable him to grow his football knowledge and skills which will increase his chances of success in football in the future.”

Tebatso said, “This is a dream come true. I have been playing football with the hope of getting international exposure and now it’s finally happening. I am proud of myself because I was hungry for the opportunity and worked hard.
