Dwindling funding within LFAs leads to demise of games
ALEXANDRA – As the deputy president of Safa Joburg, I will be happier to see these games coming back to our calendar again, says Molepo.
The once-popular interLFA games that the Alex Northrand Local Football Association (LFA) dominated for years have been thrown into the rubbish bin due to dwindling financial resources to sustain them.
This was disclosed by the president of the Alex Northrand LFA Maisha Molepo, who is also the deputy president of Safa Joburg Region which used to organise the games on behalf of the associations.
The games haven’t been on the calendar of the associations’ activities for some time now and when approached by Alex News on why the games were no longer on the radar, Molepo said, “Financial circumstances of the LFAs forced us to stop the interLFA games. These games were a good way of gauging the progress we’re making in the development of talent within the communities but nothing gets to be done when there is limited if no funding at all.
“Our LFAs are struggling as we speak and they can hardly afford to send athletes there. It is a challenge for LFAs to even get their own affairs right, even though they have well-meaning proposals on the table.

“As the deputy president of Safa Joburg, I will be happier to see these games coming back to our calendar again but that is all dependent on the financial outlook of the LFAs to enable them to host the games.”
Safa Joburg Region is in charge of a dozen LFAs, those being Alex Northrand, Deep South, Midrand, Orange Farm, Eldorado, Greater Mayfair, Jowest, Rand Central, Roodepoort, Southern, Soweto, and Upper Soweto.
