Pan African mall launches a new Astroturf soccer pitch for local kids

ALEXANDRA — Pan's Synthetic grass pitch will accommodate a maximum of five-a-side players to be in field.

Alexandra’s 12-year-old mall, the Pan Africa Shopping Centre launched a mini AstroTurf soccer pitch on 14 May for Alex children to play indoor soccer.

The hope is that the facility will play a huge role in keeping children off the streets as they may end up getting into drugs. Also it is hoped it will bring more people to the shopping centre as some enjoy watching local football games.

According to Alton Werrett, the operations manager of the centre, the facility will create opportunities for children who wish to play professional football as they may be spotted by football scouts.

Zain Patel, who is a professional soccer freestyler said, “The pitch is very important because I used to live in Alexandra and one thing I noticed is that here in Alex, many of our brothers and sister are taking drugs and they also think doing minor crimes such as trespassing and petty theft will not land them in jail.

“So with the launch of this lovely pitch, it will help keep our kids, brothers and sisters busy from taking part in doing reprehensible activities.”

Lordwick Kgatle, marketing assistant of the centre, said, “The pitch is extremely important because there is less space and less grounds available in Alex, so the pitch will help bring people together to celebrate 5-a-side soccer games.”
