Talented Zimkhitha makes it to VW Vaya Cup squad

ALEXANDRA -– I will work hard on these select players to turn them into a formidable side, says Shorty Dludlu.

Former Banyana Banyana captain turned Bantwana coach Simphiwe Dludlu has assembled what she termed a formidable girls’ team from the five high schools in the township that will participate in the VW Vaya Cup later in the year.

The sixth school that participated in the development programme known as the VW Train4Life Soccer League was Marlboro Secondary School which joined Alex schools, East Bank High, KwaBhekilanga High, Alex High, Pholosho Junior Secondary and Realogile High, all under the tutelage of Dludlu.

Among the 16 team members announced by Dludlu, now coach of Tshwane University of Technology Ladies and famously known in the township by her football nickname Shorty is talented 14-year-old Zimkhitha Xabanisa.

Zimkhitha, a Grade 9 learner of KwaBhekilanga High School who plies her trade in the Bluebirds Ladies U17 team, continues to ride the crest of a wave after she was named Player of the Tournament in the just-ended Free Palestine Solidarity Cup.

Zimkhitha is the third member of the Xabanisa family in Alexandra to play for the Birds, after her sisters Vuyo and Zimi. Vuyo was chosen as one of the players in the 2017 Future Players Gauteng Talent Search competition and flown to the football mecca of Madrid and Valencia in Spain for further training and development.
